What is a high performance team and how to quickly get one?
In an era where stakes are high and projects are feeling the pressure to deliver high quality work, on budget and on time more than ever, the importance of engaging the right people and ensuring teams are high performing as soon as possible has never been so great. The economic downturn has meant that the corporate spend has reduced whilst risk aversion has increased. New projects and teams have to prove their worth and relevancy quickly to ensure ongoing support. The increase of alliancing and joint ventures means that often diverse organisations and cultures are brought together and need to quickly establish common values, norms and culture to ensure successful project delivery. As such, the start-up phase of a project is critical in ensuring the team moves from forming to performing (Tuckman 1965) in the shortest possible time, thus minimising the effects of ‘growing pains’ which hinder productivity.
