IN FOCUS will give our readers a chance to get to know a little bit more about who our consultants are and what makes them tick. In this edition we talk to TMS Senior Consultant and Strategic Sourcing specialist, the talented Mark Kane.
I came to work at TMS because… I saw an opportunity to broaden my skill set and to explore a new type of environment. Having previously only worked for quintessential Recruitment Agencies, TMS provided the scope to gain exposure to a range of different organisational dynamics.
In my work I am passionate about… a number of things. First of all, I am passionate about getting results. Recruitment is a competitive industry and is essentially driven by outcomes therefore I put in the hours to ensure success. At the same time, I get a great sense of fulfilment in facilitating people’s next career move. To see someone realise their potential and secure their dream role brings a great degree of satisfaction to me personally.
What I enjoy most about TMS is… the family feel within our organisation. With my immediate family all based in Ireland, TMS has become a ‘family away from home’ where everyone feels valued. Furthermore, I am buoyed by the opportunity to work with so many talented individuals with diverse backgrounds and skill sets.
My first job was… with my Grandfather. Whilst still in School, essentially we set up our own business which encompassed the maintenance and erection of grave memorials.
The person I most admire professionally is… I’m lucky enough that even during a relatively short career, I have worked under some great leaders. Each of these people has been unique in their approach and methods and they have constantly challenged me and imparted significant wisdom.
The book that has had the biggest influence on my career… the 7 habits of highly effective people by Stephen Covey. This book has been extremely influential in shifting my mindset and how I perceive and broach certain situations both within a professional and personal context.
If I wasn’t a consultant I would be… ideally a Professional Footballer.
The best piece of advice I have ever been given is… Don’t dwell on the past whether it be negative or positive. If you make a mistake, analyse it, learn from it and move on quickly. If you achieve something great, don’t get complacent and strive to succeed again.
The thing that makes me most happy outside work is… Playing and watching sport, particularly Soccer. I am a massive Manchester United fan.
