Our InFocus Series gives our readers a chance to get to know a little bit more about who our consultants are and what makes them tick. In this edition we talk to the very talented, Sally Cutts, who works out of both the Melbourne and Brisbane offices as one of our Consultant Psychologists.
I came to work at TMS because… I started at TMS as a placement student as part of my university studies. I wanted to apply for the placement because it sounded like an amazing place to work and would give me a broad range of experiences. My expectations have been more than fulfilled and I enjoy every part of working at TMS.
In my work I am passionate about… I’m passionate about helping people, teams, and organisations not only reach, but exceed their potentials and goals.
What I enjoy most about TMS is… I enjoy working with a fantastic team. Although the nature of our work sometimes makes us quite geographically dispersed, we always feel connected and supported.
My first job was… I had a casual job working at swimming competitions selling programs and ‘manning’ the door to the swimmers and coaches only area. It was a fun job and I got to see a lot of famous swimmers which was pretty exciting as a teenager.
The person I most admire professionally is… I have been lucky enough to have been led by a strong female in each role I’ve held. I admire each and every one of them and they are all wonderful role models.
The book that has had the biggest influence on my career… It’s not a book, but Kotter’s Harvard Business Review article on the 8 steps for successful organisational change was the first article I read that related to Organisational Psychology. Reading that article sparked my passion for Organisational Psychology and helped me realise that I wanted to pursue it as a career.
If I wasn’t a consultant I would be… I would probably be working in another field of psychology such as Neuropsychology, or in Allied Health like a Speech Pathologist.
The best piece of advice I have ever been given is…
“We choose how we react to the world.” This is a reminder that we have complete ownership about how we respond to things that happen to us. It’s a good reminder to stop, re-frame, and make the choice to conduct yourself with integrity and positivity.
The thing that makes me most happy outside work is… Spending time with family and friends, playing with pets, and playing my violin.
