TMS works with Westpac Group’s young professionals network through the Future Me Program

Late last year, TMS Consulting facilitated the final round of professional development workshops with Westpac Group. As this was one of our favourite projects in 2017, it was a lovely way to finish the year.

Over the past 6 months, Helen Wood, CEO of TMS Consulting has worked closely with Westpac Group’s Future Me Program, the Group’s The Youth Network, to develop and deliver a series of professional development workshops in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and this week Adelaide.

Participants reported that the workshops developed and delivered by TMS were highly interactive, fun and engaging.

The workshops focussed on developing skills in non-technical areas, valuable for professionals and emerging leaders. This included:

  • Personality Profiling – Participants were able to understand behavioural preferences for themselves and others. Scenarios were used to demonstrate how awareness of self and others increases our personal effectiveness in the workplace. The session also focused on understanding different thinking and communication styles.
  • Emotional Intelligence and Personal Resilience – Participants were taken through the importance of developing emotional intelligence in the workplace, as a key characteristic of high performance. In this session, participants went through each of the components of EI and applied their learnings to specific workplace situations. The session also focused on resilience, where participants were able to understand the complexities and emotions associated with change and were given tips on how to develop resilience.
  • Public Speaking – In this session, participants developed an understanding of the key components of an effective speech – strategy, structure, support, style and use of supplements. Participants also discussed the importance of effective stakeholder management and were given tips for identification and engaging with stakeholders in the workplace.
  • Networking – The final session focused on the participants ability to build their personal networks and increase their comfort with and skills in networking. The session culminated in an ‘elevator pitch’ where participants used their learnings from the entire program to network with senior Westpac staff.

In addition to developing skills in these areas participants have appreciated the opportunity to network with peers across the Westpac Group in each state. The enthusiasm demonstrated by the Westpac Group participants further enhances our belief that All Organisations are Human and when we invest in our workforce significant improvements are achieved both personally and professionally.
