The Telstra Business Women’s Awards Gala Dinner was held on Tuesday night with an impressive line-up of finalists and award winners.
Capt. Jan Becker of Becker Helicopter Services won the award in the category of Queensland Business Owner. Ms Becker was nominated alongside TMS CEO Helen Wood and four other inspiring Queensland women for the prestigious award that celebrates outstanding achievement in business and the community.
Ms Wood said that she was honoured to be considered in the company of the other finalists given their calibre as business owners and leaders.
“To stand alongside the amazing women that were here as finalists tonight was absolutely incredible,” said Ms Wood. “Jan has obviously done amazing things with her business. Her award is very much deserved and I congratulate her.”
Ms Wood also made a point of congratulating the overall winner Anne Cross. “As a company who do a lot of work in the not-for-profit sector it was heartening to see Anne’s win. I look forward to continuing my connection with her”.
All of the finalists will now join the Telstra Business Women’s Alumni network – something that excites Ms Wood.
“The women I have met over the past few weeks as part of the awards program are simply an inspiration. I am looking forward to continuing these relationships. I also look forward to using my experience to mentor young men and women starting out and to sharing the lessons I have learnt in growing my business.”
Establishing TMS Consulting in 2006 after a successful career in the public sector, Ms Wood has seen her management consulting firm grow significantly over the past three years, servicing clients in the areas of organisational capability, team performance, safety and fatigue management, and strategic sourcing.
“I feel very proud to be a finalist. It is recognition for a lot hard work and many lessons learned. It is also recognition for my fabulous team and the support I receive from family and friends”.
In addition to TMS Consulting, Ms Wood runs two other businesses in partnership with her husband, Ralph Henderson in the wine and tourism industries. She also devotes a significant amount of her time supporting charities and not-for-profit organisations and is Chair of the Brisbane Youth Service Board.
