Last week TMS CEO Helen Wood presented at the Executive Assistant Congress Series at the Pullman Hotel, Brisbane.
This two-day event, held over Tuesday 13 and Wednesday 14 September, explored how to ‘Create Invaluable Partnerships.’ Helen focused on helping Executive Assistants understand what they can do to support their Executive, their teams, and the organisation through change with her presentation entitled, “Leading Through Periods of Change – A Practical Change Management Guide”.
Helen talked about the enormous amount of change in organisations in the last few years and the importance in aiding executives to effectively manage their organisation’s journey through that change. “Supporting the business as it goes through an intense period of change, provides a real opportunity to contribute to the new organisation and shape its future,” stated Helen. Key learnings for conference attendees included:
- How to develop and maintain excellent relationships with the senior executives, to ensure an appropriate flow of information and to facilitate effective decision making
- Understanding the difference between change and transition and what it means at an individual employee vs. organisational level
- Understanding what reactions to change people are likely to witness and experience
- Helping executives deal with a range of change-related issues
- Keeping communication current when dealing with internal and external stakeholders
- Understanding how to remain motivated and motivate others.
Helen finished the presentation by challenging attendees to think about what they personally could do to support changes occurring in their organisations given their new understanding of the impact of change and how to influence it.
